People my whole life have told me that hydration is super important. I know that water is good for me, and even that it
helps create blood cells and wash out toxins that I consume in my body. But all of that is far too
generalized for me to really get a good grasp on why it’s a good idea to stay hydrated.
So let’s get right down to it:
Why is proper hydration important?
Let’s talk about the negatives, it’s a little easier for us that way:
To not get enough fluids during times when the heat is high and humidity off the charts, it can be “difficult to take in enough oral fluids to prevent dehydration“. Here are some signs of dehydration that are commonly known but are important to state anyway:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
excessive thirst quickened breathing (or a fast pulse)
flushing skin fatigue
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When you feel these symptoms – any of them – it’s best to find a way to fix this ASAP. If you leave yourself starting to decline and leave it, your health can actually take a serious hit.
So whenever you’re doing anything that you’d consider an “activity” (i.e. exercising, hiking, sports, or anything of that nature) bring some water with you. It’s not that hard to sip on something like water or a drink that has electrolytes, so just do that.
What Water Does For Your Body
The CDC has published on this topic, so I’ll put it below and let them explain better than I could in my own words:
“Getting enough water every day is important for your health. Drinking water can prevent dehydration, a condition that can cause unclear thinking, result in mood change, cause your body to overheat, and lead to constipation and kidney stones. Water has no calories, so it can also help with managing body weight and reducing calorie intake when substituted for drinks with calories, such as sweet tea or regular soda.
Water helps your body:
- Keep a normal temperature.
- Lubricate and cushion joints.
- Protect your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.
- Get rid of wastes through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements. “
Hope this article helped you gain a slightly better understanding of what this thing we call water is and what it can do for us. Have a great day!
